Guess How Much I Love You

This work took 3 and a half hours from start to finish, the whole process was aided by the wall already being painted the colour of the background I required.  Any other colour would have invovled painting on the sky first then waiting for it to dry before I could even begin to draw the scene.  The colours I chose for the characters were taken from the original, but I used the base coat colour to check that the paint I was using would go with it.  I was very pleased with how quickly it all came together and this piece was a joy to paint.  I am very happy with the end result and so was the the dad!

Dr Who and the Football Game!

The last room I was asked to do at the home in Sileby was interesting to say the least!  I was told that Martyn liked Dr Who and Football and was there any way that he could have both?  A bit of head scratching later and Dr Who saves the match by transporting the team away from the evil Darleks who want to ‘exterminate’ them to their pitch.  This was such a strange room to paint, changing from one colour scheme and theme to another.  But it certainly wasn’t boring and in the end I think I managed to please Martyn and that is the main thing.

The Countryside

A relaxing theme was chosen for the next bedroom I decorated in Sileby.  It had to be kept fairly simple and not too busy, so we decided on the English countryside with fields of wheat, poppies and some of the wildlife you might see there.  It also brought about a slightly new direction for me, that of painting using gloss paint for the sunflowers on the door.  This was another really fun project and although more messy I loved painting with gloss, it goes on so smoothly!

Kenny’s Farm

I was asked to do another room mural, this time the theme was based around farm animals and in particular horses.  It was a fun mural to paint, but the horses were going to prove tricky!!

I decided that to be able to include all the animals that Kenny wanted, but keep the emphasis on his favourite animal, horses, one wall would be dedicated entirely to them.  The other wall was for the rest of the fam animals and included a tractor and barn.  The final surprise feature was the horse behind the bedroom  door.  When the door was closed it revealed a horse looking out over his stable door.

The whole project took 20 hours and ended with a very happy Kenny.

A friend of mine was decorating her sons room and asked me if I could help her with the helicopter transfer he had on one wall.  Although it was designed to peel off there were some very delicate parts and she didn’t want to risk tearing it.  We came up with the idea of putting a sunset behind it.  She painted the wall the colour she wanted and got as close to the copter as she wanted, then I came in and painted the background around the transfer.  There were some pretty fiddley parts, but after about 4 hours this was the result.

A large bathroom in the same care home as the Underwater Toilet was painted  to resemble a seaside postcard based around the premiss of each of the residents having their own beach hut in the bathroom.  I used various sources to find the images I required, coming from the seaside myself I had a good idea as to what I was looking for!

The 2 main walls contained the beach scenes, whilst the the facing wall with a window was used for the sea.

The door into the bathroom was a sliding door, so we thought it would be fun to place someone in a beach hut getting changed behind it.

The idea was that when you shut the door the bather would be revealed!

The wall with the sea on it was interrupted by a window, but was also the direction that those in a bath would face, so it had to be more than just blue sea.  Of course drinking on a lilo out at sea is never a good idea!!

The small enclosed bathroom was turned into an under-the-sea experience, with sea creatures put on all available walls.  There were fish, sharks, turtles, sea-anemones and sea snails.

Space Mural

This is the main wall of a Space theme based mural.  It was painted for a 2 year old boy, so needed to be freindly and bright, but not too childish for the sake of its longevity.  The client found images of a mural on the web that they really liked and we pretty much stayed true it.

On the opposite wall I painted these guys to look like they were poking out from behind cupboards.  This idea was used on the original and the client also liked this idea.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

On the last remaing wall another planet similar to the small one above the rocket was painted using a slightly different colour scheme and a reverse ring.  A few stars were dotted around, but it was felt that in this case less was more!

The whole work took 10 hours, the short time frame is largely due to being able to paint large items at different places.  Basically I worked ’round’ the room, blocking in back colours, moving to the next piece which allowed the paint to dry, then going back over each item adding detail.

Spiderman backdrop

I was asked to paint a backdrop for a Spiderman transfer and a caption for a Batman trasnfer. A skyline was chosen from a Spiderman comic that would accomodate Spidey without drowning him out.  It was mainly black, with some yellow.  Due to the style of the image I painted the buildings with the yellow first and then blacked in the detail using acrylic paint.  This ensured a tighter image than say the background I used for the Alien, which involved painting the black first and then adding random spots of yellow.  The overall effect was very pleasing and once I placed Spiderman into the image the whole thing really came together.  The almost monotone background meant that the red and blue of Spiderman would really stand out.

Batman was much simpler (although not to put the transfer together!) the writing followed closely to the style found in a Spiderman comic, not a Batman, but this did not detract from its effectiveness next to Batman.  The colours of pale yellow blending to orangey red add a bright splash of colour to the blues and greys of the wall and batman.  Simple, but effective!

The Footballer

A departure from the usual cartoon character, this footballer was similar in technique to  painting General Grevious.  He was painted for a footy mad, Liverpool supporting 8 year old boy.  He looks great on the white background, with the grass grounding him, so that he isn’t floating about in space.  This particular work took 8 hours to complete.
